RON McBAY INVITATIONAL COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT CONTEST
(2011-12 SEASON)

At the end of the season, I run a free contest for picking the results of the NCAA Tournament.
The contest is mainly a way for me to keep in touch with friends, but I will open it to a limited number of entries from the Internet.

    King of the '00s Rankings
For the decade of the '00s, it was John Breier who was King. (In his best finish [4th in '01], he missed winning it all by the margin of the MARYLAND-STANFORD Regional Final game. Although he supported his native MARYLAND himself, he backed STANFORD [where his son, Mark attended].)

Qualifying with their third entry in the final year of the decade, Yehuda Waitman, Patrick Barry, Brian Cashman, Stanley Tibensky, Steve Tibensky and the picks from THE NEWARK STAR-LEDGER's Bracket Boy all debut in the Top 10.

1 - In 1984, there were 53 teams (including 5 Play-In games) in the NCAA tournament and a different point scoring system was used. The revised score under the current point system is shown in parentheses.
2 - In 1985, there were 64 teams in the NCAA tournament but a different point scoring system was used. The revised score under the current point system is shown in parentheses.
3 - Also in 1985, the NCAA SEEDING COMMITTEE picks (following the seeds through the Final Four and then, if known, using the Committee's actual order among the top four seeds; otherwise, using the order from the USA Today final poll) were officially included and scored as an entry with the contest standings for the first time.
4 - In 1997, the HOOPS CONTEST CONSENSUS picks were officially included and scored as an entry with the contest standings for the first time. (Anachronistically, the CONSENSUS picks' scores for previous years are shown here in parentheses and brackets.)
5 - In 1999, negative points were introduced as a tiebreaker to avoid the tie that occurred the previous year. Shaun Maher was the official winner over Kyle McKinney. (In 2006, Warren Adams was the official winner over John Horton.)
6 - In 2001, a preliminary round Play-In game was added. This game was treated as an optional bonus pick worth .5 points.
7 - In 2002, two entrants submitted a pick for the preliminary round Play-In game, but didn't not follow up with picks for the full draw. Technically, their scores were (0,-192), but these will not be considered as the contest record low scores. (Thereafter, such cases were not included in the standings at all after the main draw began.)
8 - In 2011, there were 68 teams in the NCAA tournament, beginning with the new First Four 1st-round games (all treated as mandatory .5-point picks).
